Harnessing The Power Of Data For Gender Equality

Equal Measures 2030

Equal Measures 2030 has published its report Harnessing the Power of Data for Gender Equality, presenting its 2019 EM2030 SDG Gender Index containing an analysis of the status of gender equality in 129 countries across the globe.

This index, which includes 51 indicators across 14 of the 17 SDGs, scores each country between 0 al 100 (absolute inequality and absolute equality) and refers specifically to gender equality and to issues that particularly affect women and girls.

The report presents the conclusions reached after analyzing the results, among them:

  • To date not one country has fully achieved the promise of gender equality set out in the Agenda 2030.
  • No country has scored 90 or more, although Denmark is close, with 89.3, followed by Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Germany, Canada, Ireland and Australia.
  • The 10 countries with the lowest scores are Sierra Leona, Liberia, Nigeria, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Yemen, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad.
  • In general, countries with higher incomes are more likely to have greater gender equality.
  • No country comes out top in all the targets or in all the indicators.
